Dials

In addition to a Attribute View being represented as a bar graph, a separate Dial type of display can be created and shown on the screen. A dial can be displayed together with the Attribute View itself, or you can hide the View, and leave the Dial displayed.

To create a dial, select Options from the Attribute View’s menu, then select Show Dial in the List Picker Dialog. After the "Show Dials" option is selected, the default Dial appears on the screen display. It is called a Horizontal Slider.

A dial can be adjusted to suit your requirements by clicking on the dial and selecting various calibration and configuration options from its edit menu. Once you have produced a dial, you can save its displayed configuration as a template, for use elsewhere in your model, or in other models.

Creating & Choosing Types of Dials

To create a dial, select Options from the Attribute View menu, then select Show Dial in the List Picker Dialog. The default Dial appears on the screen display. Clicking on the default dial produces an editing menu. The Mode option of the Dial Edit Menu enables you to select what type of dial display you want for the screen.

A list picker dialog appears enabling you to select from a range of dial modes. The types of dial modes available are:

  • Horizontal Slider (default display) & Vertical Slider
  • Horizontal Bar & Vertical Bar
  • Lamp
  • Value
  • Oval Dial
  • Time Clock
  • Chart Recorder
  • Control
  • Label List
  • Image Map
  • Check Box

Configuring the Dial Display

Horizontal and Vertical Slider

A slider is used to display a value which may move about an average. It can also represent occupancy. It can be calibrated to indicate negative values. If the maximum or minimum calibrated value of the dial display is exceeded, the slider stays at the appropriate end.

Horizontal Bar & Vertical Bar

A bar is more often used to denote an occupancy than a value, as it gives a good impression of occupancy as a proportion of capacity.

Lamp

Lights up when occupancy or attribute value moves above the half way point of the specified range.

Value

Displays the value of the attribute or occupancy as a number, up to an 8 digit display.

Oval Dial

Can be set to increment in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. Can be set to display upper and lower warning regions. The dial will only indicate up to its minimum or maximum calibrated values, even if the value has exceeded these limits.

Time Clock

Used to display values in a format suitable for representing the passage of time. The clock format can also continue to increment up to a large value as the various hand ratios can indicate proportionately higher unit values.

Chart Recorder

Used to display an occupancy or attribute value when you are interested in the value as it changes across a specified time period.

Once the Chart reaches the end of its traverse, it begins again at the left hand side and overwrites the prior display as it goes across.

Using Dials to display Images

Image display, control knob and label list

Dials associated with Views with 'in place edit' can now be interactively dragged/turned etc.

If you use this feature, you have to ctrl-click on the Dial Image to manipulate it rather than move it

TIP: if the original attribute's rounding option is set to "Round Units" then the dial will "snap" to integral values when dragged.
